FOUR community health volunteers have been thanked for saving people’s lives through clinical services at the once-notorious Bumbu Settlement in Lae.
The Catholic Health Services in the Diocese of Lae has thanked Aloisia Babau, Bonny Kalim, Bruno and Pricilla Wandau for their services to community health in Bumbu.
They were thanked during the opening and renaming of Bumbu Aid Post by Bishop Rozario Menezes, of Lae, on Thursday.
It was renamed Saint Martin De Pores and it replaces the old All Saints Parish-Bumbu Clinic built in 1982, which was ridden by termites and condemned in 2016.
The condemned clinic was pulled down in early 2017 and the construction work on a new one, led by former late Bishop Christian Blouin, started.
The work cost K120,000 and was completed in November.
The aid post was funded by donors from Canada and friends of Blouin, with the support of the government and church.
Aloisia Babau, Bonny Kalim, Bruno and Pricilla Wandau have served the Bumbu community, including patients and pregnant mothers, since the 1980s.
Population increases put more pressure on their work.
