FOUR out of the 16 prisoners who broke out of the Biru Jail in Northern last year have been recaptured.
Jail commander Teddy Beaga said community support to hand over the prisoners had been very poor and claimed people were harbouring some of them.
He expressed disappointment with the lack of community support towards the surrender of the 12 prisoners still at large.
Beaga said the last break out was in June 2014 where 11 prisoners escaped and now the number of escapees has increased.
He said 10 of the prisoners were wanted for wilful murder and six among them were for rape.
He said these prisoners were high risk criminals but the communities in the province were not cooperating with the jail officers in recapturing the escapees.
Beaga said Biru Jail has a capacity to hold 250 prisoners but the number has been maintained well below this.
He said from the last count on Friday, there were a total of 114 prisoners in the cell and the prison officials have continue to maintain their food ration.
Beaga called on the community leaders to help his men to locate the escapees who were on the run.
He said maintaining law and order for safe and secured community was everyone’s role.
Meanwhile, a young female inmate, who was wanted for murder, had escaped from the Popondetta police station cell .
Beaga said the young woman was previously held at the Biru Jail but due to police investigations and court case, she was transferred to the police cells.
He said the suspect disappeared without a trace.
