THE free Covid-19 drive-through testing facilitated by the St John Ambulance (SJA) at the Taurama Aquatic Centre (TAC) would be for the sick and those with symptoms only.
SJA announced the changes to the drive-through testing through a statement. “The priority for our work at St John is caring for the sick and needy,” it said.
Trying to help people by doing private travel swabbing has become difficult while also responding to the emergency. The drive-through will now only be testing people who are sick with a symptoms of the Covid-19.
The symptoms of the Covid-19 are: cough, fever, shortness of breath, loss of smell, loss of taste, and fatigue. “We are now using the Antigen Rapid Test (Abbot Panbio) at the drive-through,” the statement said.
“If you are symptomatic for the Covid-19 we can give you a result within about an hour of your swab, depending on our availability.
“We are no longer doing private testing at the drive-through.
“If you want a 24-hour result for travel or work, please present to any of the private clinics that are doing testing.”
