Fuel shortage hits Eastern Highlands

THE fuel shortage in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, continued for the third day on Monday with all service stations in town closed by 5.30pm.
A manager of one of the service stations, who refused to be identified, said they were waiting for word on when they would get their next supply of fuel.
“We are left confused as to when we will get our supply, our customers are asking but we have no answers for them,” he said.
Meanwhile, fuel suppliers into Kundiawa in neighbouring Chimbu which serve buses and private vehicles have had their pumps closed for the same period.
Truck operator John Kiak said he stopped his operations due to the fuel shortage.
He said fuel suppliers had already stopped supplying at the Goroka and Mt Hagen depots.
Fuel supplies for Goroka police have already run out, according to provincial police commander Superintendent Michael Welly.
