Funding for Fode centres

Letters

I wish like to express my concern over the funding of Flexible Open and Distance Education (Fode) provincial centres in the country.
All tuition free funding allocated to Fode by the Education Department are kept in Port Moresby.
Only a fraction of that funding is sent to the provincial centres and whatever is received covers only the basic needs of the Fode centre and does not cater for course materials.
Course materials should be part of the free education system and provided free to students at Fode centres. Instead, what we have now is the students getting the course materials in flash drives and SD cards, but then not all students have excess to computers and printers.
This is causing great inconvenience to students who enroll from the rural areas.
Education Minister Nick Kuman should direct that all TFF funds for provincial centres be paid directly into those centres’ bank accounts to allow them to manage their work and services properly.
