FUNDING constraints have delayed an interdepartmental team’s travel to Popondetta to assess the people’s claim of deteriorating services and infrastructure,  the Inter-Government Relations ministry said yesterday.
The team comprising officials from government agencies, the departments of Personnel Management, Treasury, National Planning, Prime Minister and the National Executive Council, provincial and local level governments and finance were initially scheduled to have arrived on Sunday.
Sources within the Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs confirmed yesterday that the central agencies coordinating committee had finally approved the funding for the team to travel this weekend but no specific date was given.
Meanwhile, landowners and the Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) Owners Association yesterday said they were planning to stage another protest after the lapse of the 72-hour ultimatum last Friday.
Local level government presidents’ spokesman Charles Jasari told The National yesterday they were organising the communities, including youths, to protest in town over the weekend if nothing positive from government was received by the end of the week.
