A COFFEE marketing group in Morobe is calling for government and private sector assistance in funding and training coffee farmers.
The Kah-Para Kopi coffee marketing group of Markham wants coffee farmers trained in the Markham-Hewagi Corporative, of Intsi village in Umi-Atzera, and the Kowesuru Corporative Society, of Wamunde village in Raicoast, Madang.
Kah-Para Kopi group director Archie Luther said they were assisting the two village cooperatives to manage a million coffee seedlings each for farming. But private sector and government’s intervention was needed in funding and materials for farming.
He said they wanted to partner with government and stakeholders to develop the project.
The coffee farms for the Kowesuru corporative will be located at Saria and Wamunde villages.
“We initiated the project ourselves and are exhausted now. We need external assistance in funding and supplying of materials,” Luther said.
He said they needed their districts to conduct farmers’ training for quality coffee farming and management.
Luther said corporate organisations and government’s support was needed to boost farmers input and the production.
Luther said the training and support would enable villagers to support government’s 100-day plan in agriculture sector.
