THE number of funding proposals from communities is too much for the allocated project funds in the district, a senior public servant in the Morobe provincial fisheries division says.
Morobe fisheries cooperative association manager Bucklay Kaupa stated this to Busamang locals at Buli camp last Saturday.
He was there to launch a sawmill for family with the hope that they would use it to contribute to the community’s development.
Kaupa, who also represented the Salamaua local level government president and Morobe fisheries chairman, pointed out this sad picture to people from the Malalo circuit of the Evangelical Lutheran church.
He said many hardworking individuals, families, clans and cooperative societies had the potential to contribute to the development of their communities  but they missed out on government funding.
Kaupa said the projects covered under LLG funding were prioritised from many applications.
He said individuals and families covered under cooperative societies was a bonus in order to get help.
The sawmill recipient, Absalom Tissili, said it was a long and hard process to access government funding, especially by villagers and rural communities that were only aware of development funds but lacked the will to seek help.
Tissili said the lazy attitude of many public servants made it hard for people to access government development funds.
He thanked the Haggai leadership and Morobe principal planning adviser Tony Ase for their input in helping him acquire funding.
