PNG Power Ltd chairman Larry Andagali says all electricity requirements for the Pacific Games will be ready on time.

“We are on track,” Andagali  said.

“Funding issues, especially over transmission lines, but I’ve been down to Treasury to get a State guarantee which is a requirement of the banks.

“Other than that, the work is on target.

“We should probably have it (work completed) mid-June, have a couple of weeks to test the system and make sure that we are ready by July 4 (which is the official Games opening day).”

Andagali gave an assurance that Port Moresby would be secured with 25 megawatts of gas power by July 1.

“We have got 50 megawatts of power in the background,” he said.

“So for the next 10-15 years, Port Moresby power requirements are pretty much fixed.”

“The transmission and the distribution systems need to be upgraded. The system failure is causing all these blackouts.

“That is the challenge for the board if we can all sit down and work on these issues.”
