Gazelle happy to be named premiers

GAZELLE say they are grateful after being named Port Moresby Men’s Softball Association B-Grade premiers despite a short season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Gazelle senior player Gabriel Pamel told The National that the team had performed well all season and deserved the crown.
“It’s great that our B-Grade team have been crowned minor premiers this season,” he said.
“They have done well this season under their coaches Bernard Pamel and Milton Pilak.
“It was a short season but our players performed better than last season.
“They were looking forward to playing in the finals but unfortunately because of the Covid-19, the season is now cancelled.
“It was a good call by the association as it is better for everyone, teams and the fans to follow the rules for our own safety and to avoid the virus.
“Even though our team were also crowned premiers for this season, it’s only on paper.
“The other four B-Grade finalists – Brothers, Eagles, Cats and Mariners – also played well all season.
“Any of these teams could have taken out the premiership if we had gone through with the finals.
“But that’s the way it is now and we happy.”
