THREE new projects were launched in Gazelle Central’s Karavia, East New Britain, on Thursday.
Gazelle MP and Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Jelta Wong said the projects include a new double-classroom building, a jetty and an onshore facility and rural electrification.
“For more than 40 years, the people of Karavia have been living without power supply despite being only a few kilometres from Kokopo and Rabaul towns,” he said.
“The K250,000 classroom for Karavia Primary School was funded by the Gazelle development authority (DDA), the K2.1 million for rural electrification was funded by Kumul Consolidate Holdings Ltd and the jetty and onshore facility was funded by the National Fisheries Authority.”
Wong added he would not announce the cost of the jetty as the project would be put on tender.
“The jetty is very important for the people because they need it to sell their daily fresh catches,” he said.
Wong said the DDA had also paid PNG Power Ltd in Kokopo for 100 easypay meter boxes to be installed in the first 100 houses this week.
