Genesis make short work of unfit Cosmos in PMSA

FOUR goals by young striker Riggie Togubai allowed FC Genesis to take the first three points of a newlook Port Moresby Soccer Association competition format smashing Cosmos FC 8-2 last weekend.
Genesis were too good for a tiring Cosmos side, running rings around them scoring six unanswered goals, four from Togubai in the second half after a 2-2 first half score. With veteran Andrew Lepani manning the backs and supported by new recruits John Ray, Rodney Mobiha and a hosts of young players, FC Genesis looked the better side going into the second half despite a strong challenge by Cosmos FC old hands, Semion Ealedona, Fabian Bagi, Enoch Abraham and Godfrey Dobbin in the first half.
Fatigue crept into the Cosmos side and with FC Genesis the fitter unit took control of the game and never looked back.
The win gives FC Genesis the lead in the new premier league format which will see no grand finals but the leading team after the normal rounds being crowned the champion team.
The Genesis-Cosmos game was the only PMSA Premier League game over the weekend with the PMSA imposing its No Pay No Play policy for all divisions.
PMSA vice-president Joseph Ealedona said teams that had paid the agreed registration part payment would be allowed to play and the PMSA would decide in a team delegates meeting on May 30.
Ealedona urged clubs to pay the agreed registration fee to be drawn for this weekend.
A total of eight competition games were played from all divisions except women with PMSA also welcoming fourth division team Solomon United FC — a team comprising the Solomon Islands community and students.
SUFC defeated West Gelu, also a new team comprising players from West New Britain 2-1 in their inaugural season.
