Northern police commander Lincoln Gerari plans to work with newly elected MPs to build rural command posts for Ijivitari and Sohe districts.
Gerari told The National that Oro Bay and Saiho would be the command posts for the two electorates respectively.
“I’m planning to introduce two things – one is to introduce rural command posts for Sohe and Ijivitari.
“These are sort of taskforce units that can travel around the rural areas in Sohe and also in Ijivitari.
“I will be asking the respective members of the two electorates of Sohe and Ijivitari to assist me with vehicle and office space for these units.”
The Sangara post is to be the base for the highway patrol.
Gerari said the Oro Bay command post would provide services to Afore, Musa and the North Coast.
“I also intend to establish a sea police post at Kikiri Beach which was proposed last year,” Gerari said.
“My proposal for the establishment of Kikiri police post still stands and I have prepared all the documents but had put them on hold to allow for the new Ijivitiari leader to be elected.”
Northern Governor Gary Juffa commended the police, saying the provincial government would continue to support them to maintain law and order.
“My commitment is to continue with building houses for them, giving them the vehicles and the resources they
need to maintain law and order,” Juffa said.
