THE Gerehu Sports Centre has become a weekend hub of vendors, Gerehu Offseason Rugby League president Frank Kurum says.
Kurum said their games attracted large crowds from all over the suburb and this provided people the opportunity to sell food and drinks on weekends. “Many sellers in Gerehu and other nearby suburbs come in the morning with bulging bags of fruits and other food items and drinks and sell out by the afternoon,” Kurum said.
Darkers club supporter Vicky Wass also sell food and drinks at the games to raise money for the club.
“We do not have major sponsors like other teams, so we sell food and drinks to make money for the club at the games,” she said.
Wass said their food and drink sales was making money for the club enabling them to buy uniforms and boots for players as well as other needs like strapping tape and balls.
The club had organised a group of family and supporters to sell at the centre during games.
Wass told The National that they bought their food and drinks on the morning of the games.
“We roast and sell lamb heart, sausages, kaukau and potatoes,” Wass said.
She said from spending K300 on the food and drinks to sell they made K250 to K300 in profit.
