Handball in PNG received a shot in the arm with the recent visit by an expert of the game, Klaus Feldmann from the German Olympic Committee.
Feldmann travelled around the country conducting coaching clinics, introducing the sport to students.
During his six-week stay, Feldmann worked with students from Kilakila Secondary School, Kopkop College, Paradise High School, Nonu Elementary School, Marianville Secondary School, Jubilee College and St Joseph’s International College in the National Capital District.
On Buka Island in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, he visited Hutjena Secondary School, Hahalis Primary School, Lamankoa Primary School, Lemanmanu Primary School, Mangoana Primary School and Donatus Elementary School.
“The hospitality of the people around the country made my job easier. Handball is a suitable sport for PNG, many students showed great interest and adapted quickly to the basic elements of the sport,” Feldmann said.
“Given this potential it would be great if the sport of handball could be introduced to the schools so that more children from an early age can take up the sport.”
President of the PNG Handball Federation Robert Doko said having someone with the experience of Feldmann in the country showed that the sport of handball has great potential in the country.
“Feldmann has imparted the finer points of the game at the various schools that he has visited. Trying to introduce a new sport.”
