GOVERNOR-General Sir Bob Dadae has signed a K74 million deal under the Government’s Tuition Fee Subsidy contract to buy school materials for schools in the country.
According to the K74,077,881 contract, teaching and learning materials for elementary, primary and secondary schools, would be purchased by the Government.
The National Executive Council awarded the contract to MH Supplies Ltd.
Company representatives Jimmy Poh and Kelvin Tan and Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra signed the contract before Sir Bob at Government House, Port Moresby, yesterday.
Kombra clarified that the contract was a direct school grant from last year brought forward.
He said the money would be spent on teachers’ materials like chalk, charts and markers and students’ materials such as exercise books, rulers and pencils.
“We are implementing the component from last year. Due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) and few other reasons, we were not able to execute the contract, so we are executing this year,” Kombra said.
He said there were two components of school materials – one was direct school grants and the other commodities which covered kits such as flags and sporting items and teachers’ kits.
