THE 9-Mile Giants expect the Mountain Bulls to try to muscle their way to victory when the sides meet in the NCD Governor’s Cup final today at Kone Tigers Oval.
Giants coach Steven Gunua said his side were anticipating a torrid encounter with the Bulls, who stormed to the cup decider off the back of a powerful pack.
“I think they’ll use their extra size to try to dominate through the middle. That’s how they beat the Young Guns in their preliminary final so we expect them to test us in that area,” Gunua said.
“They have some hard running backs in Digicel Cup players David Lapua and the Teme brothers (Jerry and David) in the halves so we expect those players to get the ball.
“We may be a little smaller but I think we’ve got a game plan that will give us a good chance of winning the title.”
The Giants will be looking to playmaker McKenzie Buka to make the difference as he had shown his class as an organiser and a kicker.
Bulls coach Nixon Kolo, who is a former Kumuls prop, said his side were looking forward to taking on the Giants and he maintained that if his charges played to their potential they would be holding the Governor’s Cup after the final whistle.
“We’re really excited with the with the win to the City Redbacks on Tuesday and today we promise not to let our fans from Morata and Waigani down,” Kolo said.
“We can win this final. We’ve built up some good form and hopefully we do the job tomorrow.”
In the plate final, the D8 Mosquitoes take on the Makana Cowboys and in the bowl final the Uruniwini Raiders face Saraga Survivors.
