Gibson’s case challenged

Letters

The report in The National on Friday October 5, “Gibson’s case struck out for want of prosecution”, cannot go unchallenged.
This shows a lack of professionalism by the police prosecution team.
The report said: “Magistrate Cosmas Bidar has struck out fraud-related charges against former Finance Secretary Steven Gibson because police failed to provide a copy of the police brief (evidence) to court.”
Police need to explain why this happened.
Investigations must have cost much in terms of manpower and finance and the police need to explain how much this case cost to investigate.
What happened here? How did the police fail to do their job? Is there corruption involved?
The people need to know because the case cannot just disappear like that.
This is the kind of thing that encourages people to commit crime, especially white collar crime involving millions.
In cases like this, can the court use its power to order further investigation by anti-corruption agencies?
We seem to be seeing many high-profile cases not being prosecuted for various reasons. Can the so called ICAC or Transparency International have a shot at the case and re-investigate it?
The people of this country have the right to know where their money has gone.
