JEFFREY Gima is in the Papua New Guinea national volleyball men’s train-on squad and says he is ready to play for the country in the Pacific Games if given the opportunity.

Representing the country is not something new for the man from Hula, Central.

Gima was part of the Amoa team at the 2007 Pacific Games in Samoa and with that experience under his belt, the 31-year-old aims to do his best in front of the home crowd because the only thing on his mind is winning gold.

Gima may be reaching veteran status now but like other athletes in the squad, is excited and looking forward to wearing the red, black and gold come July.

As an experienced Amoa,  young athletes look up to him for inspiration and motivation, and Gima said he valued training and playing alongside the younger players because they brought out lot of enthusiasm and athletic ability to the side.

After returning from successful trips to Thailand and New Zealand over the last two months, Gima said their preparation for the 2015 edition of the Pacific Games was much more intense then previous Games.

He referred to the two recent overseas trips as a major boost for the team.
