A TEENAGE girl in Alotau, Milne Bay, submitted to being raped to protect her parents from three armed men, police reported yesterday.

Provincial police commander Joseph Morehari said the gang stormed the girl’s house in the early hours of March 30 and threatened her parents to release their daughter to them.

Morehari said the victim, aged 16, surrendered herself to the men to protect her parents.

“The girl was in fear of her parent’s safety and she followed the suspects’ orders,” he said.

Morehari said a man, aged 19, raped the victim in her house while her parents were guarded by the other two suspects.

He said the matter was reported to police in Alotau.

“Police have investigated the case and have arrested the suspect,” Morehari said.

He said the suspect was charged with rape and police were still hunting for the other two suspects.

The police commander appealed to people to be careful of thugs threatening the young people in their communities.

“I’m appealing to our female population to take extra care,” he said.

“They should not be walking in isolated tracks to take short-cuts to their destinations.”

Morehari said Alotau was a peaceful town and urged residents to be alert to such danger.
