Gmart murder suspect case adjourns

A SUSPECT in the murder of Bangladeshi manager of the Gerehu Mart (Gmart) had his case adjourned to April 27 by Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii yesterday because the police files were not ready.
Simon Tigibi Hetaya from Kuaralai village in Koroba, Hela, charged with murder and attempted murder was remanded.
He was alleged to have stabbed Ridoy Hasan, 32, to death on Jan 2.
Hasan was stabbed on the right side of his chest according to police.
Hetaya was also accused of attempting to kill security guard Joseph Moka who was stabbed on the right side of his head but survived.
The incident happened after Hetaya went into Gmart and allegedly stole a pair of shoes.
He was allegedly spotted by Moka and Hasan who approached him and took him to Hasan’s office for a search.
It was alleged that Hetaya took out a knife from his pocket and while being led to the office, stabbed Hasan and Moka.
He was caught by guards outside the shop and handed over to police but escaped again. He was apprehended the next day.
