Goi: Women abusers must be dealt with

MEN who abuse, threaten or assault women and girls must be severely dealt with, says Community Development, Youth and Religion Minister Wake Goi.
He was responding to the death of 19-year-old mother of two Jenelyn Kennedy in Port Moresby last Tuesday.
Goi said there was also a case in Jiwaka where two women travelling with others in a vehicle were shot by unknown gunmen. One of the two was Molina Kapal from the Komblo tribe of Warakar in North-Waghi.
Goi said it was “not normal” for PNG men to act like that towards women, whose rights must be respected and protected.
“Look at Jenelyn who was tortured and went through a living-hell. It is not a good picture for this country. Actions must be taken,” Goi said.
“No one, not even husbands or boyfriends, have the right to restrict women’s freedom.
“We must not allow rude husbands or wife-bashers in our society. They must be punished.” He said PNG must not tolerate such behaviour.
“It is about time to crack the whip and deal with those rude husbands and men who have no respect and care for women and girls,” Goi said.

  • Men are killing women and women are killing men, its a two way street. What we need is to be tough and forcefully execute the laws that we have in place. Verbal condemnation is merely words and insufficient and ineffective. We need to make tough decisions and dish out capital punishment. Send these people overseas to be executed if we are scared to do it here.

  • We society never tolerated men beating up their wives.
Usually the man’s family tried to solve the problem and warn the psycho that one day the lady’s brothers would be coming to deal with him. And in most instances the brothers would be there and belt the shit out of the bloke. Most times the that would end the habit or the marriage ended.
Just wondering why family members particularly brothers and cousin brothers are not coming quickly to rescue ladies in places like POM city?
We should be telling our sons to protect their sisters.
I did it for my only sister and the beating ended 27 years ago.
She is now happy with the bloke and I am best mate with him.

  • Mr. Goi, you are the minister responsible for such issues relating to woman. Can you do something in terms of policy matters and push through respective legal frameworks for a tougher and stiffer penalties for the culprits. You are in the position to do something tangible. Just talking does not help.
