GOILALA were handed a two-year Central Province Premier League (CPPL) ban after a field invasion during Sunday’s grand final against Koiari led to the killing of a man, said an official.
The Karukas’ K10,000 prize money was also forfeited and given to the family of the deceased, identified as 24-year-old Patrick Tolove, from Efogi village.
The field invasion at the Murray Barracks Oval in Port Moresby took place in extra time after the scores were locked at 6-6.
Southern Confederate director Gwaibo Mairi said K26,000 in prize money was divided among the two teams.
“Goilala only received K2,000 after K10,000 was given to the deceased’s family to cover funeral expenses and K1,000 was deducted as a judiciary fee,” he said.
“Koiari received K12,000 after K1,000 was deducted as judiciary fee,” Mairi said.
“A report gathered showed that Goilala had been involved in three transgressions in the past.
“Under the rugby league constitution, we have a code of conduct and it applies to the club. We were unable to identify anyone (involved in the brawl) so it has to go back to the club and their players.
“In this case, the CPPL management had identified those involved as supporters of Goilala Karukas.
“We condemn the actions of those involved. CPPL is banning Goilala from participating in the competition and the penalties are effective immediately.
“Their players can join other clubs but the Karukas and any Goilala team will not be entertained.”
Meanwhile, Tolove’s cousin and guardian Morgan Umare told The National that the body was at the Funeral Home awaiting repatriation arrangements.

  • Imitating ways of another is falsehood. It is not you.
Of course disagreements are inevitable in any group. That is human. It is also human that those disagreements in whatever form they may rear their heads in, in any social settings, are discussed and sorted out in communally acceptable ways. Melanesian Papuan ways in this case.
You got to yourselves, how this brutal violence and savage killing ways become your a part of description?
