A TOTAL of 30 teams are currently registered for the annual Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge in Lae on Sunday with registration expected to close today, says an official.
The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee’s (PNGOC) marketing and events coordinator, Sangiawi Singut, said the support from the business community in Lae was overwhelming after initially expecting only 20 teams this year.
“We have 30 teams that have registered which is big because we anticipated only 20 teams but we’ve gone past that all the way to 30 and that’s good news for us,” she said.
“We had a lot support coming from the business community in Lae with a number of business houses coming on board.
“The support from all these business houses have been really great given that we had two weeks to prepare and it’s still coming in with a few businesses sending their sponsorship in kind,” Singut said.
Tee off for the Lae challenge starts at 10am on Sunday while the Port Moresby challenge starts on Oct 30.
All proceeds from the PM’s corporate golf challenge will go towards Team Papua New Guinea’s preparations for next year’s Olympics.
The Trukai Fun Run, which is the second largest fundraiser for Team PNG was cancelled this year following the ongoing impact of Covid-19 in the country.
