‘Good governance, accountability vital’

IT is vital for good governance, accountability and integrity to be in the Government system so services actually reach people in the community, Transparency International Papua New Guinea deputy director Yuambari Haihuie says.
“There should be good governance, accountability and integrity in Government systems to enable Government services to be equally delivered to the people and address the pressing issues in the country,” he said.
Haihuie told a recent co-creation and good governance open Government partnership conference in Port Moresby that the commitment to address the issues should be realistic and can be addressed within the national action plan 2021-2023.
He said other commitments to be included were public participation, Government integrity and freedom of information, public service delivery, extractive resource transparency and open data.
Chief executive officer Arianne Kassman said to address some of the issues in the country would need partnership and collaboration between Government agencies, civil societies, private sectors and media to strengthen integrity and gain public trust in PNG.
