Gordon Market looks good, but will it be safe?

Letters

THANK you New Zealand and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for your kindness and assistance towards the construction of the new two-storey Gordon market, in Port Moresby.
The New Zealand government-funded state-of-the-art market facility is set to open its gates to local farmers and vendors anytime soon.
The big question now is if the safety of the general public, students, women, and girls outside the peripheries of the new market facility and its surrounding areas – including the Gordon main bus stop shop fronts, streets and walkways– is guaranteed.
This is the question that is in the mind of city residents, students, women, girls, locals, farmers and the expatriate community in Port Moresby.
They all need to be assured of their safety and need to be protected from the hooligans and criminal elements who prey on innocent people there.
Gordon is a transit point for city commuters, students, shoppers, and people from Gulf and Central.
That part of the city was not meant for thugs and hooligans.
We all must work as a team to make Gordon a safe place for shopping, transiting, working, selling, buying, etc.
Gordon Market should be a place we all want to go to.

  • The new Gordons Market is an outstanding Community Project by NCD Governor Power Parkop. In response to the question will it be safe? Well to answer that question, I suggest presence of Police Officers at the market place. Foot patrol and monitor the market areas. Presence of Police Personnel will guarantee safety.
