GOROKA Netball Association received K35,000 from the Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu, pictured, which was witnessed by its board and Netball Papua New Guinea council members over the weekend.
Numu extended his appreciation to Netball PNG for giving Goroka Netball Association the opportunity to host the national championships and welcomed all netballers to Goroka.
He said one of his government’s priority is to empower women and girls in the province and so was pleased to support Goroka Netball Association as host of the tournament.
He made a further commitment to support Team Eastern Highlands next year.
Outgoing Netball PNG president Julienne Leka-Maliaki acknowledged Numu’s support, which was timely to help Goroka deliver a successful tournament.
She encouraged all other governors to support netball from next year as the council endorsed a new competition structure, giving rise to provincial membership structure representation at future national championships.
