GOROKA won the Lae Mix Fours Bowls Championship grand final in Lae on Sunday.
Bowling champions for the first time Goroka beat the defending champions, Lae, 14-9 in a tight final.
Goroka sharpened up to take a two shot lead (13-9) and before the final shot to win the match.
The presentation of the awards went smoothly at the Lae club.
The awards were given in the majors, sectional runners-up, resting touches and equal thirds.
Equal thirds awards went to Harry Dotara of Bulolo, Mt Hagen’s L.Jersey and Katherine Wills and Joe Bandi of Madang.
Goroka’s bowls star Peter Juni said they were “very happy” with their sponsors SP Brewery and Table Birds for ensuring a successful tournament.
Juni said after several attempts over the years Goroka had finally won a major.
PNG Bowling Association secretary Peter John said the games for the year had ended and he would be putting up the calendar for next year by this weekend.
He added that next year’s pennants would be held in Mt Hagen and Goroka in 2012.
