THERE were 13 babies born at the Goroka Provincial Hospital during Easter, according to labour ward officer Pove Keasu.
“We delivered 13 babies – nine boys and four girls. They were born between midnight on Friday to midnight on Easter Sunday,” he said.
Keasu said Nicka Kamabe from Lufa district in Eastern Highlands gave birth to the heaviest baby – a boy weighing 4.2 kg.
All were delivered without complications, he said.
Keasu said they normally delivered between 15 and 20 babies during Easter, New Year’s Day and Christmas.
“We are satisfied that all our deliveries were without any complications. The babies are well with their mothers,” he said.
Reports from Kainantu Hospital indicated that there were fewer than 10 babies delivered but details were sketchy because of communication difficulties.
Other babies were born at the rural health centres in Asaro, Yonki, Obura, Wonenara, Okapa, Lufa and Watabung.
