Goroka hospital short of staff

THE Goroka General Hospital is one of the biggest in Eastern Highlands, but it is now in a critical condition that needs urgent government attention. From the emergency ward to the morgue, there is shortage of staff. Currently, there are only a few senior staff members and doctors while others are just trainees from the nearby Goroka College of Nursing. Patients are being referred from small clinics and aid posts around the province, but the trainees just observe without fully treating them. The trainees have to wait for senior staff to give proper instructions or take over, which is a waste of time and may cause the patient to lose his/her life while waiting. Another major problem because of the shortage of staff is when there is an emergency, everyone leaves other patients to attend to that. In addition, I think it is also because of the very poor management by hospital managers. I urge the government to seriously look into this matter and act fast before things get out of hand and more patients lose their lives.
