THE 2012 Goroka corporate bowling championship started this week at the Goroka Bowling Club with Ela Motors and Bintangor Trading sponsoring the event.
President Wilson Unua said it was great to see corporate teams registering for the occasion.
The challenge will be on every Wednesday evenings for the next four weeks.
“Corporate bowls is a fun-filled occasion that unites bowlers and fans.
“I encourage you to enjoy and promote the sport,” Unua said.
He said bowls had won gold medals for PNG at various international events in the past and would continue in the future.
However, Unua said the government and responsible sporting authorities were more interested in other sports, some of which had yet to show in their performance after pumping a lot of money into their coffers.
“Victory is not in the final score but it is in the quality of the game,” he said.
He also presented a certificate of appreciation to Blue Sky Travels and Goroka Family Store for sponsoring their recent games in Mt Hagen and the 2011 Tokios mixed triples.
Blue Sky Travel manager Kearyn Heagreves and Goroka Family Store representative Martin Yumbun received certificates of appreciation at the opening on Wednesday night.
Teams participating are KF Coffee, Bank South Pacific, Hoffman Club, Ela Motors One, Ela Motors Two, Goroka Family Store, Blue Sky Travel, Remington PNG, Goroka Police One, Goroka Police Two, Goroka Builders, Zzahaqoo Ltd, DJ Wheels, Namalu Coffee, TVET, Coffee Industry Corporation, Boroko Motors One, Boroko Motors Two, Hanu Coffee and New Guinea Fruits Company.
