The PNG Medical Society shield arrived at the Goroka Provincial Hospital on Saturday, paving the way for the Eastern Highlands capital to host the golden jubilee of the PNG Medical Society Symposium next year.

The shield arrived with staff of Goroka hospital from Lae, Morobe, which hosted this year’s 49th PNG Medical Symposium that ended last Friday.

Goroka provincial hospital manager Dr Francis Wandi said Goroka was chosen because it hosted the first symposium in September 1964.

He said the hospital, PNG Institute of Medical Research and Eastern Highlands provincial health authority would combine to host the symposium’s golden jubilee.

“I thank PNG Medical Society president Prof Nakapi Tefuarani and his executives for choosing Goroka to host the golden jubilee (50th anniversary) of the society’s medical symposium next year,” Wandi said.
