GOROKA bowlers took out this year’s national men’s fours championship in Bulolo, Morobe, last weekend.
The team, comprising 10 men, returned home in a triumphant mood on Monday after the two Goroka teams beat their rivals from Lae and Bulolo in pool A and B to go into the final.
The Goroka sides played off for first and second spots while the other two teams from Bulolo played for third spot.
Goroka Bowling club president Wilson Unua said yesterday  the victory was the latest national event on the PNG Bowls Association calendar.
He said Goroka, under his stewardship, had bagged all the national titles, adding the national men’s fours event was the latest they won this year.
“Our champion bowler Peter Juni started off by winning the men’s singles at the Lae Bowling Club in January, followed by Goroka winning the first four top spots in the national pairs in Goroka in February,” Unua said.
He added Goroka won the back-to-back title during the Easter national pennants at the Lae Bowling Club.
“Out of the 15 teams from Lae and Bulolo competing in the men’s national fours, we (Goroka) finished first and second.
“We were reluctant to play in the final but we had to play because of formalities sake,” Unua said.
Senior bowlers leading them to the championship were Juni, Tony Yogiyo and Anam Somu, while others included Unua and former Kumul player Leslie Hoffman were the junior bowlers.
“We are now eyeing the national men’s triples in Madang in June for a clean sweep to keep our success rate intact,” he said.
