SECURITY guards at Goroka airport have caught a man trying to ship 4kg of marijuana last weekend.
Company managing director Winchlee Oibotee yesterday confirmed his guards continued to undertake thorough checks on passengers boarding Air Niugini flights to Port Moresby.
He said the suspect was from Fayantina village in Henganofi district, Eastern Highlands. He was bound for the Kimbe Oil Palm block in West New Britain.
He was stopped at the airport security checkpoint on Saturday.
The man had booked to fly to Kimbe via Port Moresby.
When questioned, the young man claimed someone had put the drug in his bag and volunteered to lead the guards to where the person was.
Oibotee said his guards called Goroka police who arrested the man.
He said the man’s family could not travel without him and returned to Fayantina village.
“We remain committed and vigilant and will catch those who think they can pass through the security checkpoint at the Goroka Air Niugini terminal, it is non-negotiable.
“We will continue to refer offenders straight to police,” Oibotee said.
He said his guards would not accept bribes.
