ABOUT K5 million allocated for the Kundiawa town water supply project in Chimbu was misused but the Government would still restore the water supply to the town, says Public Enterprise Minister William Duma.
Sinasina-Yogomugl MP Kerenga Kua had questioned why Kundiawa had been without water for several years.
Duma said K5 million had been allocated to the project but it was misused. But the Government was committed to restoring water to the town after a study carried out by Water PNG was approved by Cabinet.
Similarly Duma said the town of Bialla, in West New Britain, would also have a water supply system when the National Executive Council approved the contact for the project.
“There is a submission for a nominated contract for the overdue water supply project within the two or three weeks’ time,” he said. “t is a project of national importance the Government is working on. The Prime Minster and the NEC would approve the contract submission.”
Duma assured the people of Kimbe town that they would be provided a better water supply and sewerage systems because the town generated much revenue for the country.
He said Water PNG engineers had carried out a study on the proposed water and sanitation project.
He said Kumul Holdings and its groups of companies were prepared to provide essential utilities.
