THE Government will ensure all inquiries are investigated thoroughly and those implicated brought to justice, Prime Minister James Marape says.
Marape was responding to Northern Governor Gary Juffa’s question in Parliament on commissions of inquiry (COIs) from past and present that had not been concluded.
“An inquiry will not be stopped here, it will be allowed to reach its fullest maturity and police and all constitutional office holders will be asked bring those who are implicated to justice,” Marape said.
“Commission of inquiry makes no finality to matters. COIs will just be a punctuation mark in matters that deals with breaking the laws.
“Our Government will not to stop matters being progressed beyond commission of inquiry.”
Marape said there were other matters or inquiries being brought before Parliament for full scrutiny and public debate, including the Union Bank of Switzerland saga under the care of an Ombudsman Commission.
“Likewise, any matters pertaining to inquiries must be presented in Parliament for debate.
“After this we will do our best to ensure police and any constitutional office holders deal with or progress inquiry to bring those who have committed offence to face the fullest measure of law.”
Marape urged Juffa to bring before him any other inquiry that needed to be established and findings that had not been brought before the Government.
“We will do our best endeavours to present them in Parliament for public appreciation and consumption,” he said. “We have given three months for the UBS inquiry to come to conclusion but the members of the inquiry have the fullest liberty to extend beyond the scope if they feel it relevant.”
Marape said if the inquiry was brought to conclusion, the findings would be made available for the public through parliament and police would be asked to do their job.
“Police and other constitutional office holders are not to be stopped running their own investigations to progress the matter,” he said.
