Government urged not to relay unconfirmed information

THE Government should not unnecessarily announce unconfirmed information at this time when a serious public health issue is facing us, says Opposition Leader Belden Namah.
Namah expressed disappointment when Prime Minister James Marape and State of Emergency (SOE) Controller David Manning announced there was a positive Covid-19 case at Morauta Haus last week.
Namah explained that the information from the controller resulted in the curfew and checkpoints which hindered the movement of people.
“I have received reports that the woman who was accused of testing positive of Covid-19 at Morauta Haus last week has now tested negative,” Namah said.
“If there really was a confirmed positive case, everyone who were in that Morauta Haus building, including the Prime Minister Marape and his ministers, should be in self-isolation for 14 days by now.”

  • Totally agree. Please confirm and confirm thoroughly before releasing such information in the press making the citizens panic then depriving our normalcy and survival through the SOE directives. We can’t be toying with the people’s freedom.
