Government urged to fix power issues faced by PNG Power

ENGA Governor Sir Peter Ipatas has requested the Government to fix the problems facing PNG Power Ltd so that it can improve its services to the people.
When switching on a power supply from Kuimanda to Lamenamanda at a cost of K1 million, Sir Peter said funding was made available in 2015 to PNG Power but it failed to carry out the connection.
He said such state entities were causing setbacks to national development.
Sir Peter said the Enga provincial government had to complete the project. “Government agencies need to wake up and start doing their jobs instead of waiting to be told what to do,” he said. “This project was supposed to be delivered six years ago but was delayed. I do not know what the cause was.”
Sir Peter suggested that the Government should decentralise power supply service to the provinces so that they can be managed properly.
“Most of the development are held back because State agencies are not performing,” Sir Peter said.
“This is not happening here in Enga alone, other provinces could be facing the same thing.”
He said the power project in the Wapenamanda electorate would benefit hundreds of people.
Sir Peter said all government agencies must be active when there was a task to carry out.
