Government wants quality added to free education

PRIME Minister James Marape says his government will continue the Tuition Fee Free (TFF) education policy and add quality to it.
He said quality would will come at a higher price.
Marape, who announced Wosera-Gawi MP Joseph Yopyyopy as the new Education Minister on Friday, called on the department to support to the minister.
“We will detach technical schools and colleges (from the Education Ministry and attach) them to higher education and we will allow Yopyyopy to concentrate on secondary, vocational, as well as primary and elementary schools to add quality into that space,” he said.
“If we can inject quality right at elementary space, quality will cascade all the way up to the top.
“New Minister for Education, you have a mammoth task, go in don’t just talk about free education only but talk about free and quality education in the lower space.”
Meanwhile, Education Minister in the ousted government Nick Kuman will take charge of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.
Marape, in announcing Kuman’s appointment, said it was a big ministry.
