NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has encouraged a group of graduating students to be proactive and resilient when venturing out in their next step in life.
Parkop said to 101 graduating students from the Kumul Training Institute (KTI) at their Tokarara campus in Port Moresby on Friday during the institute’s 44th graduation ceremony.
The students were awarded national certificates in business studies, Tvet and occupational health and safety.
Parkop told the students that the Government would be there to help them but it was up to them to help themselves using the knowledge and skills they had attained in their fields.
“Government will be here to support you all,” she said.
“Government is providing all the infrastructure, services, helping people to give you a platform to educate yourself, helping your parents to educate yourself, but at the end of the day it comes to you.
“You all have come together to attain skills that you hope would give you a better platform and a better future.
“It is up to you now.
“The environment out there is very challenging.
“It’s more challenging now because of the Covid-19, which has caused a slowdown in the economy, businesses not growing and employment shrinking.
“So when you graduate from here, you might find that the environment out there is not very conducive. Now, I want you not to give up. Always find solutions and don’t focus just on the problem.”
