EAST New Britain (ENB) Governor Nakikus Konga is impressed with the result of white copra production in the province and commended the Kokopo district for taking the lead.
Konga visited Tobera Farm in the Kokopo-Vunamami urban local level government (LLG) where farmers attended the training.
East New Britain Kokonas Indastri Korporesen has been facilitating the training on white copra production.
Two wards in the Kokopo, Kokopo-Vunamami LLG and Korai in Bitapaka LLG were chosen to pilot the project.
Konga said in order to move into autonomy, the province should engage more in agriculture to expand and grow the local economy.
He said other crops included cocoa, vanilla, coffee and balsa, as well as livestock production.
“No one from East New Britain will deny the fact that he or she has never benefited from cocoa or copra,” Konga said.
“Copra is all widespread throughout the province, as well as cocoa.
“These two cash crops are the backbone of this province,” Konga said.
“They (cocoa and copra) always boost the economy of East New Britain.”
