CENTRAL Governor Kila Haoda has praised Powes Parkop for taking the initiative to cleanup Port Moresby.

He said Parkop, the National Capital District governor, was facing a problem caused by people’s ignorance of simple rules.

“We are dealing with a mental problem.

“People see a notice that says no spitting but they go ahead and spit on that particular notice,” Haoda said

“We all know what the problem is and Parkop has put his leadership on the line.”

Haoda said the NCD, Gulf and Central governments would be working together to address issues as such and continued harassment and better opportunities for Mekeo people.

“Your petition is my petition and my concern is the produce of my people,” he said.

“Buai will stay forever and my concern is the security and wellbeing of the people.”

Haoda said the main concern for the Mekeo people was the harassment by people from other provinces who claimed to own the betel nut markets.

“We want a betel nut market at the Kairuku area where the people can have territorial powers and have control over the market,” Haoda said

He said he has talked to the  Department of Agriculture for a long-term solution on the betel nut issues in the country.

“We need long-term solutions but it will not happen in the next five or 10 years,” Haoda said

He said the Central provincial government would be sending a team to Asia in February next year to set up networks for the packaging and sale of betel nuts.
