NEW Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan has fully recovered after he was down with acute food poisoning on April 8.
His family physician Dr John Tonar confirmed that Sir Julius had gone into respite in his Huris home in Namatanai and had sought adequate medical attention, including specialist assessments and treatments.
“The governor received both intravenous and oral medications over the course of his illness,” Dr Tonar said in a media statement.
“He has recovered well.”
Last Friday, Sir Julius held a special “thank you bung kaikai” at his Huris residence.
While he had been lying on his sick bed, locals and church groups from the local United church and Catholic congregations would converge outside his home praying, singing and fellowshipping.
“While I was sick and weak, I realised I am a lucky man,” Sir Julius said.
“So fortunate to have you all showing concern and care for me.
“I am also fortunate to have all the doctors attending to me .
“But it also made me think of all the less fortunate nationwide. Who are taking care of them while they are sick and freezing in the cold.”
