CENTRAL Governor Kila Haoda has been told to apologise for referring to Goilala people living in the National Capital District as “settlers”.

Goilala landowner leader Daniel Simana said yesterday that they were not happy with Hoada’s comments during a meeting at the Central provincial government headquarters in Konedobu, NCD, on Monday.

Simana said that “settlers” had a bad connotation as it referred to people from another province or region coming and settling in a new area outside of their provincial or regional boundaries and the public were already thinking that my people are settlers.

He said that his people were not happy with Haoda as he was mandated by them to represent them and take their concerns to parliament.

“For him to refer to us as settlers was not right,” he added.

Simana stressed that Goilalas were the original inhabitants of Port Moresby and the NCD.

“In fact, Port Moresby was originally and is a part of Central which we are part of. Port Moresby is our city and our town and it is our right to seek government services from it as our area has been void of government services or impact projects by the Tolokuma mine now for the last 17 years”.
