Governor wants parliamentarians to be loyal to parties

ENGA Governor Sir Peter Ipatas has called on parliamentarians not to become “political prostitutes” but to be loyal to their political parties.
Sir Peter said this after commending Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Justice and Attorney-General Davis Steven for being loyal to the People’s Party.
Sir Peter said nowadays many elected leaders were jumping from one political party to another because of greed.
He said those who moved from party to party were not true leaders or with principles to commit to serving the people.
“Nowadays PNG politics is different as leaders are seen jumping here and joining one party after another,” Sir Peter said.
“They are like prostitutes going from one place to another and completely forgetting the purpose why they were elected to Parliament.”
He said an MP’s credibility was brought into question when they behaved this way.
He said it showed they were after positions and power and not steadfast to their promises made or the plans laid.
“I cannot understand why leaders continue to jump from one political party to another and this is not good and a very bad practice.”
He said leadership was all about serving the people and earning their trust and confidence.
“I have been seeing many leaders doing it or are doing it now and it must not become a hobby for many.”

  • Everytime an ordinary citizen enters parliament, a dog called “EGO” always follow them.
And most end up becoming party hoppers.
