Govt allocates K3mil to islanders

THE Government has allocated K3 million to provide more food to Manam people affected by the recent volcanic eruption.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, who visited the temporary care centre at Zogari village on Saturday, said he had acted quickly by sending a Defence Force ship to assist with the transportation of relief supplies.
He was informed of the disaster by Madang Governor Peter Yama.
O’Neill thanked the Madang government for wasting no time in arranging for the relief supplies to be sent to the island.
Acting Madang administrator John Bivi said they had sent three boat-loads of supplies for nearly 1000 people on the island. Around 400 from Kolang and Dangale villages were relocated to Zogari village and received the first lot of supplies.
Yama visited the people on Friday and told them that he had been coordinating the transportation of relief supplies to them.
Madang MP Bryan Kramer visited the island with a medical team on Wednesday.
O’Neill encouraged Madang political leaders to set aside their differences and work together on the Manam resettlement issue.
The Manam people have been living in care centres since the since the volcanic eruption in 1996.
