MORE than 10,000 rubber farmers in Western will now benefit from a rubber price subsidy programme backed by the Government.
Minister for Agriculture and Livestock John Simon allocated K450,000 to the province to boost the industry since the province proved capable of raising different agricultural activities such as rice, vanilla, cocoa and others to benefit rural communities.
He commended the hard work of farmers in the rubber industry despite the low price they had been receiving the past 53 years.
“The Marape-led Government is supporting agricultural activities in rural communities. Western is one of them because of the rubber industry.
“The price for rubber per kilo was K1.40. Then it dropped to K1.
“The price per kilo is now K2.”
