Govt brings more laws to Parliament: O’Neill

THE Government is continuing to bring more legislations to Parliament to deliver reforms for the people, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill says.
In his response to the governor-general‘s speech at the opening of the 10th Parliament, O’Neill said it was almost 12 months and the Government continued to build and implement robust policies.
“The Government is continuing to bring more legislations to this Parliament to delivery real reforms for the people, implementing robust policies, strengthening how we deliver services to our people and continue to grow our economy and create more jobs and opportunities for our people.
“In the second Alotau Accord, we had a theme, ‘strongim wok na sindaun blo ol pipol’. We are now in the process of implementing this substantial agenda that we have set for the nation.
“This includes the continuation of free education, delivery and expansion of the universal healthcare, improving law and order and building of the infrastructure right across the country.”
The Government continued to deliver on these programmes in the last 12 months.
“Our Government continues to fund our district services improvement and provincial services improvement programmme and will continue to do so, it is a programme for the whole year and budget allocation will be spread around.
“We continue to maintain this policy because we can see what it has delivered to the most remote districts through this country because of this intervention.
“The fundamental of our economy and the stability of our country is very sound and remains sound and it is important that we continue to build on this.
“We have got in the last few years our nation’s budget deficit as a percentage of GDP has continued to decline and will continue even further.
“I’m happy to say that the agenda that has been set by the governor-general during his address to our nation during the opening of our term of Parliament.”
