THE National Executive Council (NEC) has reappointed Jerry Garry as the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) managing director for another four years.
Mining Minister Muguwa Dilu said Garry had been in the industry for years and had the expertise to lead the MRA.
“This shows the confidence the Government has on his leadership,” he said.
“He has shown maturity in leading this important government department in some of the most difficult times and his knowledge in and around the mining sector is vast, something his department and the Government will need.”
Garry looked forward to working with industry players and stakeholders.
“Mining is an important sector in our country, as it contributes almost 80 per cent of our export revenue,” he said.
“Our decisions today are very important for the future Papua New Guineans.
“If we work together – Government, industry players, new investors – by building the right kind of environment for business activities to flourish while exploring more potential sites in our country, I believe we would be able to provide the right future for our children that we are hoping for.”
He added that the MRA had boosted its staff numbers as well as its office environment with technological equipment to meet world standards in the mining industry.
Garry said that the MRA hoped to deliver the Wafi-Golpu project in Lae, and the Frieda River project in East Sepik soon.
