THE National Agriculture Development Program should be continued despite the possible squandering of past allocations of nearly half a billion dolars, Hela Governor Anderson Agiru says.

He said the NADP was an important government intervention which, if applied correctly, would change the way of life for the majority of Papua New Guineans whose livelihood depended on agriculture.

Agiru was commenting on a report by National Planning and Implementation Minister Charles Abel into the use of the NADP or at least the money under the programme that was disbursed by his department.

“The minister has mentioned 154 projects, most of which went to district treasuries and distributed to groups and individuals for small agricultural projects,” he said.

He said Abel should reportwhether the projects were still running so they would know if the the money was used right.

He said in fututre NADP should hand the money to governors to build impact projects such as plantations and factories.
